I started using Quartz Composer because i could achieve some great effects, mainly Glitch effects and 3D manipulations with structured scanning, for free since it is part of XCode by Apple. I found that it is a very powerful node based system but it lacked some features i wanted since it was built for a different purpose. I wanted a timeline control of effect values and a sort of transport control synchronized to the timeline. I started fiddling and came out with a patch that allows me to control the effects via a timeline and set “Loop In” and “Loop Out” points so i can loop the result and fine tweak it without having to watch the whole video while i am working on that segment. So far it works great and i have to resolve some minor bugs. Final patch will be posted here for free download.

“Accelerator” is a business incubator company based in London. They asked us to create a short animation of their logo as part of their rebranding and expansion. The piece should present the company’s vision of being a professional digital incubator, dynamic & young. It should also be distinct, so viewers would associate the brand immediately and help integrate the brand on different media and social communities.

The project featured 72 effects shots including a meteorite intro sequence and the film’s title. Also all the graphics for the super computer interface were designed by LonesomeRobots in collaboration with the director Dannan Breathnach and the producer Mark Downes. It was a great collaboration and a wild ride trying to catch the deadlines, but the great thing was that both Dannan and Mark were so helpful and really let us add our own style to their vision.
Clips to come soon.

LonesomeRobots completed visual FX work on Danann Breathnach’s new short film “The Question”. The project featured 72 effects shots including a meteorite intro sequence and the film title. Also all the graphics for the super computer interface were designed by LonesomeRobots. The effects shots featured, breaking glasses, atmosphere effects, screen replacements and adding many details in the scenes for greater realism. The short is actually in the very final stage of grading. FX clip will be added as soon as the film hits the first big festivals.
